A quick tour of the three views. The labelled details below prevent the two most common mix ups: a covered pressure valve, and normal venting at the base.

Front view

  • Membrane plug. Keeps the PEM membrane moist. Unscrew it before first use.
  • Bottled water adapter. Evian type, for use with bottled water.
  • Display and power button. Shows the timer and selects a 5 or 10 minute cycle.

Bottom view

  • Anti-slip rubber base. Keeps the unit steady while it runs.
  • Oxygen and ozone vent. The device vents here during a cycle.
A little water discharge here is normal

Bottle cap

  • Pressure release valve. The small hole inside the cap.
  • Keep water below this hole. Water must never cover it.

First time use

Initial membrane activation

The PEM membrane ships moist and should stay moist. Keep the plug for travel or long storage. This activation only needs to be done once.

Do not wash or submerge the generator. Wash only the bottle and cap with dish soap and warm water.

Daily operation

Operate safely

  1. Fill with purified, RO, or distilled water to the max line or lower.
  2. Close the cap and confirm the water does not cover the inside cap hole.
  3. Press the power button once to select a 5 minute cycle. Within the first 3 seconds, tap again to switch between 5 and 10 minutes. When you stop choosing, the cycle starts automatically. To stop early, press and hold for 2 seconds.
  4. For a stronger result, run 10 minutes, open the cap to release pressure, then run 5 more minutes.
Always open the cap after each 10 minute cycle to release pressure.
Never put alkaline water in the device. Add alkaline drops to the glass after production instead.

Approximately 5,400 ppb

Good daily quick cycle. H2HUBB measured about 5.4 mg/L at 5 minutes.

The MAX fill line on the Nexis bottle Add image

Fill to the MAX line or below

Fill with water to below the MAX line, about 280 ml or 1.2 cups. Lower is better, and it does not affect the hydrogen concentration. The water must never cover the small hole inside the cap.

Tip: cold water holds more hydrogen, but do not put the device in the fridge. Use cold water in the bottle, or pour the finished water over ice in a glass.

Quick reference

Four things that protect your device

💧Use purified water

Purified, reverse osmosis, or distilled water helps protect the membrane.

⚠️Do not cover the cap hole

Fill to the max line or lower, about 280 ml. The inside cap hole must stay above the water.

🔌Charge at 5V / 1A

Avoid fast chargers, computer USB ports, and public charging stations.

🧼Clean manually

No dishwasher. Do not submerge the generator or wash the membrane with soap.

Regular maintenance

Keep the generator clean without damaging the membrane

Soap or harsh agents can damage the membrane. Use only pure water or white vinegar on the membrane.

  • Use a cotton swab or cotton pad on the threads. Do not brush or scrape the electrodes or the membrane.
  • Use a small spoon to lift out the seals at the generator or cap for cleaning and replacement.
  • If you notice mold or an odor, clean the container and cap with soap, then disinfect the membrane with white vinegar or Ocemida cleaning solution.
Mold prevention: rinse the bottle after each use and disinfect it regularly. A bottle left unused in a warm place for a long time can develop mold inside.

Maintenance schedule

Daily

Rinse all parts with warm water after use.

Weekly

Use white vinegar or Ocemida cleaning solution. Do not power on during soaking.

Occasionally

Tap the cap on a towel with holes facing down to remove trapped water.

Storage

Use the membrane plug to keep the membrane moist and protected.

Membrane disinfecting recipe:

Remove the membrane plug. Add about 100 ml, or 3 oz, of cleaning solution or white distilled vinegar. Let it sit for 30 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Do not power on the device during soaking.

Lifting the membrane seal out of the Nexis generator with a small spoon Add image
Use a small spoon to lift out the seals for cleaning or replacement.

Check the seals now and then

Seals can deform over time. Lift them out gently with a small spoon, rinse, and inspect the silicone gasket for damage or twisting. A worn or twisted seal is one of the most common causes of a leak, so replacing it early keeps the bottle sealed and pressure tight.
